Gainsborough: a new hillside home in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach doesn't make it easy to build. The hills are steep, the views are protected, and every new home has to earn its place. Gainsborough earned it.

A new house on an old hillside

Finished in 2025 on Gainsborough Drive, above the town, the house rises over several levels on its hillside and faces west, over the ocean and the coastline. The sunsets are part of the floor plan.

• Large pocket doors that open whole walls onto terraces with raised green planters
• Limestone floors, custom Italian cabinetry and Italian marble
• An elevator to every floor
• A garage with 16 foot ceilings, room for car lifts
• Steel and reinforced concrete throughout, with 12 inch exterior concrete walls and deep caissons into the hill

It's the kind of build you don't see in the photos, until you know to look for it: quiet, solid and made to last.

Shooting a view

A house like this is really selling one thing: the view, and what it feels like to live with it. So the film is about the light, the ocean and the way the house opens to both, with drone coverage to show how the home sits on its hillside above the coast.
