Four Ring Road: a Lake Tahoe estate, on film

Some houses you photograph. Some you have to film. Four Ring Road on Lake Tahoe's West Shore is one of the most remarkable homes the lake has ever seen, and it called for a film.

The estate

It sits on 5.21 acres in Rubicon Bay, on the stretch of shore people call the Gold Coast, behind a gated entry and a private road that winds down to the water. The house is a contemporary mountain lodge of 10,524 square feet, designed by architect Clare Walton and built by Loverde Builders in 2017.

• 300 feet of white sand beach
• A 150 foot private pier with a boat lift, plus a second pier and two private mooring buoys
• Six bedrooms, including two primary suites
• A beachfront cabana with a roof deck, two outdoor spas, a stone fire pit and a pickleball court
• A wine room, a gym that opens to the lake, a massage room and a bunk room
• A 44 kW solar array and a private geothermal system

Views run across the lake and up into the mountains in every direction.

Why we made a film

A home like this isn't sold on a room count. It's sold on what a summer there feels like: the light coming off the water, the walk from the lawn to the beach, the end of the pier at sunset. Photos show the rooms. A film shows the life.

So we approached it the way we approach all of our Signature work. We planned the shots around the light, built the edit around the feeling of the place, and graded it for this house rather than a preset. Two minutes, start to finish.
